Zavoloka & Kotra - Graftal by Zavoloka
Zavoloka & Kotra
"Graftal"
Multi-channel audio work encoded for 47 channel The Morning Line Sound System.
Taking inspiration from computer graphics, mathematical chaos theories and modern techno culture, Zavoloka & Kotra try to explore the possibilities of stochastic sound, rhythmic probabilities through context sensitive parametric compositions.
Graftal is the sound of a constant change, whose behavior is intrinsically non-deterministic for listeners, partly sporadic and not intermittent. Risk.
The shape of the sounds has been defined by a large number of rhythmic phrases together with a set of special production rules, which created axioms. These axioms were the sources of Zavoloka & Kotra’s quasi-random and highly complex sound structures.
This is an excerpt of 31-minutes track.
Commissioned by Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary.
You can still listen full composition in The Morning Line sculpture with 47 speakers at Schwarzenbergplatz in Vienna, Austria (until 23rd of November 2012).
